Jesus paid the ransom for your sin and redeemed you as one of His own special people.  

“For the LORD has redeemed [padah] Jacob, and ransomed [gaal] him from the hand of one stronger than he.” (Jer 31:11)

“being justified freely by His grace through the redemption [apolutrosis] that is in Christ Jesus” (Rom 3:24)

“in whom we have redemption [apolutrosis] through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Col 1:14)
