Background:

  • Luke emphasized prayer in his Gospel
    • “Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray [proseuchomai], and continued all night in prayer [proseuche] to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles” (Lk 6:12-13)
  • Luke noted that Jesus modeled prayer and taught about prayer
    • “Now it came to pass, as He was praying [proseuchomai] in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray [proseuchomai], as John also taught his disciples.” (Lk 11:1)

Transfiguration Facts:

  • Jesus waited 8 days before fulfilling His prophecy of some disciples seeing the Kingdom of God with power before they die

  • His purpose in taking Peter, John, and James up on the mountain was to pray
