The Supremacy of Christ

The Supremacy of Christ

There are many New Testament Bible verses that declare Jesus is God. But there are a few pericopes that exalt the Supremacy of Christ (Phil 2:5-11; Col 1:15-20; 2:9-10; 1Tim 3:16; 6:14-16; Heb 1:2-3; Rev 5:13; 7:10-12; 11:17; 21:23; 22:5). Enjoy!

  • “To you it was shown, that you might know that the LORD [YHWH] Himself is God [Elohim]; there is none other besides Him.” (Deut 4:35)
  • “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Tit 2:13)
  • “To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ” (2Pet 1:1)
  • “that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.” (Tit 2:10)
  • “I and My Father are one [eis]…Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal [isos] with God…Jesus said to him, Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (Jn 10:30; 5:18; 14:9)
  • “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins…Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us.” (Matt 1:21,23)
  • “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God [Theos], believe also in Me.” (Jn 14:1)
  • “of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.” (Rom 9:5)
  • “He is the image [eikon] of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” (Col 1:15-20)
  • “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:5-11)
  • “For in Him dwells all the fullness [pleroma] of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” (Col 2:9-10)
  • “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.” (1Tim 3:16)
  • “until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power [kratos]. Amen.” (1Tim 6:14-16)
  • “has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Heb 1:2-3)
  • “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power [dunamis] and riches and wisdom, and strength [ischus] and honor and glory and blessing!” (Rev 5:12)
  • “Blessing and honor and glory and power [kratos] be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!” (Rev 5:13)
  • “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!” (Rev 6:16)
  • “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb! All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever.” (Rev 7:10-12)
  • “We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come, because You have taken Your great power and reigned.” (Rev 11:17)
  • “They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints! Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, for Your judgments have been manifested.” (Rev 15:3-4)
  • “The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.” (Rev 21:23)
